“Pineth away” or “Stiffens out” in Mark 9:18?

The ESV and NASB translate “ξηραίνω” as “wither” in Matthew 13:6, Mark 3:1, Luke 8:6, James 1:11, 1 Peter 1:24. “Pine” means “to lose vigor, health, or flesh,” and “wither” means “to lose vitality, force, or freshness” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). If “wither” is a valid translation of “ξηραίνω,” then “pine” surely is too.
